Donnelly Family Makes Major Contribution to ALS Research.
 The
Donnelly family has made a major contribution in support of CNS's research
and patient efforts. Friends and family of Charles Donnelly who died of
ALS last year established a fund to honor the memory of Charles who was
a community leader, builder and yachtsman. The Donnelly Fund and Skaggs
Clinical Scholar Award are the major sources of funding for Dr. Smith's
effort to develop a therapy for ALS. In collaboration with Scripps Research
Institute, UCSD and a local biotech company approximately ten compounds
that might be useful for the treatment of familial ALS are being tested
in an animal model of Lou Gehrig's Disease.
